Updated 01:11 a.m., November 3, 2007CORPUS CHRISTI — It was another slow start for state-ranked Calallen, but no problem for the undefeated Wildcats on Friday night.
Despite turning the ball over on three of its first four drives – including their first two plays of the game – the Wildcats got rolling midway through the second quarter on the way to a 41-3 win over Tuloso-Midway in District 31-4A action.
The victory clinches the district title for Calallen (4-0 in district, 9-0 overall) and with Flour Bluff's win over Robstown, the Wildcats will be the top Division II representative from 31-4A in the Region IV playoffs.
While the offense sputtered in the first half, the defense made their mistakes go away, allowing only a field goal and just 46 yards in the first half.
After the first quarter, the Calallen offense got on track in the final three quarters. Kenneth Rosas had two touchdown catches, Jeramie Marek and Dustin Vaughan each threw for more than 100 yards, while Vaughan, Oliver Price, Logan Verrett and Luis Gracia each had a score.
Calallen can finish off its undefeated regular season next week at Kingsville.
