Calallen Power lifting Team Boys/Girls Sweep Calallen Power lifting Tournament
The Calallen High School power lifting team, boys and girls, swept the power-lifting tournament last Friday and Saturday at Calallen.
Varsity Boys: Calallen, 1st Place, 50 points; Pleasanton 2nd Place 37 points; Bishop 3rd Place 32 points; Tuloso-Midway, 8th Place, 8 points. Girls: Calallen, 1st Place, 41 points; Gregory-Portland 2nd Place, 29 points; Bishop, 3rd Place, 23 points; Tuloso-Midway, 8th Place, 7 points.
Junior Varsity Team Boys winners were (1) Calallen. (2) Gregory-Portland, (3) Alice (6) Tuloso-Midway.
9th Grade Boys winners were (1) Calallen. (2) Alice. (3) Taft. (6) Calallen B. (7) Tuloso-Midway.
Winning special awards were: Girls Most Outstanding Lifter 148-SHW Jamy Harvey, Calallen H.S.; Boys Most Outstanding Lifter 181-SHW Michael Martinez, Calallen H.S.
Power lifting head Coach Asa Chambless reports that: Meet highlights included unofficial state record lifts by the following lifters: Michael Martinez of Calallen had a squat of 750 pounds in the boy’s 242-pound class. Current state record is 710. Jamy Harvey of Calallen had a squat of 435 in the girl’s 181-pound class. Current state record is 400. Jordan Scott of Calallen had a squat of 350 pounds in the girl’s 132-pound class. Current state record is 345 pounds. For state records to be recognized they must be performed at the state meet.
